Challenge #67: Something New!

Happy Wednesday and welcome to our Cooking With Cricut Challenge!  We've decided to try something new for the first couple of months of the new year . . . our Design Team members have partnered up and are choosing the theme for our weekly challenges!

This week's "Hostesses" are
Madison  and  Jenny R.
They chose the theme "Something New."  Here is what they said . . . "You must use something (one thing) you just got, i.e, new cartridge, new paper, new bling . . . and include a Cricut cut.   If you did not get something new, a recent purchase or gift would do just fine.   Be sure to tell us what was new!"

So here is what the Design Team came up with . . .

Jenny created this adorable 12" x 12" scrapbook layout using her new
Sesame Street Seasons cartridge.  Check out all the details on her blog!

Madison made these super cute "thank you" notes using the ZooBalloo, Tear Drop
and Kate's ABCs cartridges.  Her new item was the paper by KI Memories from
the "Fancy Free" paper pack.  Visit her blog for more details!

Kemma used some blending pads she received for Christmas and borrowed
the Give A Hoot cartridge to create this gatefold card.
Check out the details on her blog!

Adrian used some new patterned paper and ribbons along with the
New Arrival cartridge to create this adorable welcome baby card.
Visit her blog for more details.

Heather used her new Copic markers and Cuttlebug embossing folder along with the
this cute card.  Check out the details on her blog!

Jill created this fondant covered cake using her new Cricut Cake machine and
Cake Basics cartridge.  Check out all the yummy details at her blog!

Santa was very good to Court this year!  She used her new Kate's ABCs cartridge
to create this pretty floral card along with new ribbon and My Pink Stamper stamps --
and she took the picture with her NEW camera!!  Check out all the details on her blog.

Charlotte created this frosty scene using her new Martha Stewart Seasonal
Cakes and Beyond Birthdays cartridges.  Visit her blog for all the details!

Elizabeth used her new Copic markers and the Art Philosophy cartridge
to create this super cute card for her sister's birthday.  Visit her blog for more details!

Mindy used her new Kate's Kitchen Imagine cartridge to create this fun
and colorful card!  Visit her blog for more details.

Jen didn't receive any new crafting stuff for Christmas, so she tried a new
(to her) technique!  She created this shaped card using the Joys of the Season
cartridge and colored her very first digi stamp, the Bear Holding Hot Chocolate
from PaperCraftingWorld.com.  Visit her blog for more details.

And now its your turn!  Create a project using your Cricut and something new -- either something you received as a gift, recently purchased for yourself or a new technique -- and link it up below.  You could be our latest "Top Chef!"  Here are the guidelines . . .
  • Must follow the challenge topic.
  • Must be a NEW project for this challenge.
  • No back dated posts please.
  • Must have a link back to this post on your blog.
  • Must link your project post through Inlinkz and not just your blog.

    Cartridge Showcase: Art Nouveau

Happy New Year and Welcome to the first Cartridge Showcase of 2012!

Today Chef Heather is featuring the Cricut Art Nouveau cartridge.  From classic home décor to elegant cards, this cartridge has gorgeously detailed images that you’ll love. It includes accents, animals, insects, monograms and more, plus a font with the characteristic art nouveau curves.

I am so excited to be showcasing one of my favorite cartridges: Art Nouveau. One of the reasons I chose this cartridge is even though it is one of my favorites, I had never used it! You know how that is? So I wanted a chance to play and explore with the beautiful images on this cart. I just LOVE vintage and my favorite era is the 20's. This cartridge has some very beautiful vintage art deco images, including animals, insects, flowers with flourishes and 20's era models as well as borders, frames and 2 beautiful fonts. I wanted to show a little of the versatility of the cartridge, so I have created 3 layouts, 1 card and a framed project to hang in my home.

This is a layout with a vintage look using one of the floral flourishes from Art Nouveau (wisteria) as well as the pretty art deco border and font.

Many of the images on this cart do have multiple layers, but I think the manual makes it easy to figure out what goes where, and it even tells you the minimum size to cut out the image for the best effect. On this card the peacock, peacock feather and the frame are all cuts from Art Nouveau.

Monograms are very popular right now and this cart has 2 beautiful fonts with shadow features and flourishes. I love these fonts for projects where you would want to use a monogram. I created this project with my initial that can be framed to hang in my home.

I have been ITCHING to use one of these gorgeous 20's era 'models' on a project, so I decided to make this layout. She is cut at 8 1/2 inches. This cartridge has several of these full bodied models, as well as "head shots" (not sure how else to describe them!) as shown in this next project.

For this last project, I had wanted to showcase another card but once I started working, I just had to make it into a layout! I love this paper and this is probably my favorite cut on the entire cartridge, so pretty and elegant. The flourish at the bottom left of the layout is also from this cartridge.
So there are a few examples of the different projects you can create with Art Nouveau. I hope I have inspired you to run out and get one for yourself! Thanks for looking today and Happy crafting!

WOW, Heather!  These projects are just stunning and your paper choices are perfect, too!  Thanks so much for sharing them with us today.
Make sure you stop by tomorrow for our first Challenge of 2012 -- Melin decided to switch it up a bit for January and February . . . the Designers will be teaming up and hosting a Challenge Day with the theme that they chose together!  So hold on to your hats and get ready for some fun as the Design Team takes over every Wednesday!
