My Paper Crafting Totally Tags n' ATC's: Emboss

Good morning,
Suzanne of Cricut Crafting Grammy. We are back on Thursdays to explore different themes, elements, techniques or embellishments. This week we are using embossing on our tags and ATC's. There is no restriction on what tools are used to create these tags or ATC's. It could be a die cut machine, punches, stamps, etc. The sky is the limit. However if the Design Team uses Digis or SVG's they will be from Paper Crafting World. As a side note, if you don't know what an ATC card is, we have a definition at the bottom of our post.

I hope you will join us each Thursday here at My Paper Crafting for
Totally Tags n' ATC's.

So let's see what all the designers have in store for you today
as we share  our tags and ATC's.
I hope you are like me and look forward to this post each week.

Here is the Wikipedia definition of ATC's.
Artist trading cards (or ATCs) are miniature works of art about the same size as modern trading cards baseball cards, or 21⁄2 by 31⁄2 inches (63 mm × 89 mm),[small enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets.[The ATC movement developed out of the mail art movement and has its origins in Switzerland. Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc.), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc.), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc.) or even metals or cloth. The cards are usually traded or exchanged.

CWC #133: Card Outreach

Happy Wednesday and welcome to our weekly "Crafts With Cutters" Challenge Day!  This week the lovely ladies on the Design Team are creating cards for Madison's "I Feel the Love" Project.  Each month a different individual or group is chosen to receive gifts of handmade love from crafters all over the world.  This month's recipient is a wonderful father named Reggie Nelinger.  Reggie's family has asked Madison to help them surprise him with a shower of love for Father's Day.  Here is his story:

Fifteen years ago, Reggie Nelinger, an electrician, held the hand of his sweet 5 year-old daughter, Ashley, while his wife, Sandy and  her little brother, Andrew, heard the doctor state their daughter/sister had Wilms', a rare kidney cancer that primarily affects children. Reggie was there being the best dad he could be all those long days and nights as his sweet daughter fought for her life. She beat the odds that were stacked against her despite losing one of her kidneys. For the next decade and a half Reggie got to see his daughter grow into a beautiful young lady. Reggie was able to teach Ashley to drive, take her camping, watch her graduate from high school and begin to plan her life out as a young adult. He was blessed and understood the blessing God gave him with Ashley and never took for granted the gift that was given to him as a father.

This past January, Ashley was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer completely unrelated to the cancer she had as child. It is called rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive cancer of the connective tissues, which in Ashley’s case is attached to her sinus passage. Not only is this cancer a bit of a medical baffle due to its rare state, but Ashley only has one kidney and that makes chemo and other forms of treatment more challenging to treat than normal. Reggie and his wife are now watching their child battle for her life once again.

All the painful memories of the first battle are brought back to memory, as well as the feelings of helplessness, sleepless nights, and the worry about finances. For Reggie there is the added burden to be a provider for his family in a time when all he wants to do is be there by his child's side. It is Reggie's big heart and positive outlook that helps his family lead the fight for Ashley's life all the while helping to maintain some level of normalcy for his other three other children and wife during this difficult situation. Reggie is a dad that needs to be recognized, a dad that has not only stared every parent's worst nightmare in the face once, but now twice.

Here is what the Design Team created . . .

Cindy used the Cricut cartridge:  Kate's ABCs

ATC Details-Carnation Flower Tutorial

Here is my post detailing how I created my Rose In Basket ATC
roses in basket atc-500
Here is a shot of my completed ATC. It measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches.
So it is rather small for me.

gold embossing-500
hole punched-500
First use your hole punch to punch holes in the center of your petals.

white flowers-500
I used 8 petals per flower I created. I also started with plain white cardstock petals.

glimmer misted-500
Next: Spritz your petals with either water, Glimmer Mist or Smooch Spritz, etc. Anything to “moisten” your petals.
I used Glimmer Mist, Pink Cherub because I wanted to add some color to my petals while wetting them at the same time.
NOTE: Do not get them too wet or your paper will turn to “mush” also, you will want to test this on the paper you are using.
Thin patterned paper may not be suitable for this technique.

flower 3 layers-500
Start by slipping a brad through the hole of your first petal.
Gently squeeze the petal up and pinch the bottom along the edge of your brad as a guide.
Repeat this step with each petal you add. Be gentle and also wait until your paper is almost dry.
Again, your petals can turn “mushy” if the paper is too thin or if it is too wet.
Here is a close up shot of three of the petals. Sorry, the one with just one petal was too blurry to use.

flower close up-500
After you have completed this step with all 8 petals, you can then spread the brad so that it “closes” as tight as possible.
Then, proceed to gently “open” your flower petals to achieve your desired look.

three complete flowers-500
Here’s a shot of the three flowers I made.

flowers w penny-500
I also wanted to add this shot to give you a perspective on how small they are.
Obviously, you can make them bigger by resizing the file when you cut your petals.

flowers embossed-500best
Here is a close up shot of the Glittered Heat Embossing I did on the roses in this image.
I colored the roses in with my embossing pen and then used my Glitter embossing powder.

gold embossing-500
Here is a shot trying to get the gold embossing on the basket and basket handle to show up.
I used my embossing pen and my  Gold embossing powder for the basket.

embossing products-500
Here is a shot of the products I used for embossing the Vintage Graphic.

All the products used for this ATC
