PCW Designer’s Terrific Tuesday Challenge Sneak Peak

Good morning Crafty friends,

One of the new things we’ll be doing here is starting our PaperCraftingWorld.com’s new Design Team Bi-Weekly challenge.  We will be showcasing Digital Stamps and Cutting files.

These files can be used for those who have machines other than the “Cricut”. Machines such as: The Pazzles, The E-Craft, The Silhouette, The Cougar and more!

Of course anyone can use digital stamps. All you need is a printer and something to “color” them with. We love to use: Copics, Bics, Colored Pencils, Chalks, Watercolors, our computers and more!

Our first official challenge will be on next Tuesday, November 1st. Until then, here are a few wonderful projects that some of our designers have come up with!

We will also be sharing some sketches and files with you each Tuesday challenge to assist in playing along with us! The sketches are for inspiration and will not be mandatory.

"Adopt A Shelter Pet" Blog Hop

Welcome to Cooking With Cricut and our "Adopt A Shelter Pet" Blog Hop! October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month and we wanted to pay homage to all our furry friends.  So we decided to dedicate our October Blog Hop to helping bring awareness to the plight of millions of homeless, abused and/or abandoned animals in community shelters nationwide.
Did you know . . .
  • Approximately 5-7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year and approximately 3-4 million are euthanized due to a lack of space or resources to adequately care for them (60% of dogs and 70% of cats). Shelter intakes are about evenly divided between those relinquished by owners and those picked up by animal control.
  • Less than 2% of cats and only 15-20% of dogs are returned to their owners.  Most of these were identified with tags, tattoos or microchips.
  • Twenty-five percent of dogs that enter local shelters are purebred.
  • Only 10% of the animals received by shelters have been spayed or neutered; 75% of owned pets are neutered.
  • It is impossible to determine how many stray dogs and cats live in the US; estimates for cats alone range up to 70 million. Many strays are lost pets that were not kept properly indoors or provided with identification.
  • About 63% of all households in the United States have a pet.  About 75 million dogs and about 85 million cats are owned in the United States.
  • The cost of spaying or neutering a pet is less than the cost of raising a puppy or kitten for one year.
(These facts are from the aspca.org web site - 2007 Figures.)

So, give your furry friend a treat and a hug and join us as we salute our pets!  And if you don't have a furry friend . . . please consider giving a shelter pet a loving home!

Cartridge Showcase: Locker Talk

Today's Cartridge Showcase is featuring another oldie, but goodie -- Locker Talk!  Please give a warm Cooking With Cricut welcome to one of our new Design Team members, Debbie of Workin' Scrappin' Mom of 4 blog!

Our Design Team members will be featuring their favorite cartridges on Mondays and Thursdays each week.  It is our hope that you'll be inspired to drag out an old cartridge and find a new way to use it -- or be compelled to purchase a new cartridge 'cause you just gotta have it!  (Disclaimer:  Cooking With Cricut accepts no responsibility nor is liable for any "unauthorized" or "compulsive" purchases.  So don't sic your significant other on us when the bank statement or credit card bill comes in!!!!)

There are just so many versatile images on this cartridge!  Great school images, school sayings, you can make small books for a mini scrapbook or an autograph books for a teacher, and more.  I have used this cartridge for teachers’ gifts, cards, bookmarks and even to accent my crayon wreath!  Here are some of the projects I have created using Locker Talk.

Crayon Wreath:

I used Locker Talk to cut the apple, glue and the ruler.  I had a small chalkboard ornament that I wrote on with my white gelly roll pen for the chalkboard and since my children go to Catholic school I added small Bible that I had from some previous projects.

"Soda"lighted Teacher's Gift:

I found this SUPER cute idea on Pinterest and had to make it for my boy's teachers. I also made one for the Principal and one for the Administrative Assistant who does EVERYTHING at the school (they go to a small, 1 class per grade, Catholic school). They loved them and I enjoyed making them. I covered  an empty pop tart box to make the basket. I used paper and ribbon to cover and make the handle with brads to hold on the handle. I used Locker Talk for the pencil, ruler and scissors. I filled the box with red tissue paper before I put in the treats. I put a soda, a pack of light microwave popcorn and at my son's request a highlighter (since the card says "Soda" lighted (so delighted) to have you as...so he wanted a highlighter to go with the "lighted" portion of the card).

Third Grade Teacher Survival Kit:

I used Locker Talk for the pencil, scissors and the third grade sign for this Teacher's Survival Kit.

Birthday Card:

I used Locker Talk for this card, using the card feature, then I cut the layers, just hand cut some squares and added a stamp and some glossy accents.  I “topped” it off with a 5 guys gift card on the inside.
Reading Reminder Bookmarks:

These cute little apple bookmarks are also from Locker Talk.  A perfect reminder to read, read, read!
Super cute projects, Debbie!  Thanks so much for sharing them with us -- I bet you're the parent every teacher wants for "Room Mom!"

We hope you gathered some inspiration for your own school days projects.  Click over to Debbie's blog and show her some "love!"  Make sure you mark your calendar and join us this Saturday, October 22 beginning at 8:00 AM (Eastern Standard Time) for our "Adopt A Shelter Pet" Blog Hop.  Eighteen of our Design Team members are participating and there will be some amazing projects and blog candy up for grabs!
See you then!
