Cartridge Spotlight

Hi Everybody!
This is Chef Jenny, and today I'm excited to share my project for the Cooking With Cricut's Cartridge Showcase. Each Monday a member of our Design Team features a Cricut cartridge of their choice and projects we've made with that cartridge. We hope you'll be inspired to pull out your cartridges and find new ways to use them! I chose the Toy Story cartridge. I LOVE Toy Story, and while this cartridge is still as challenging as the other Disney carts, it is just as rewarding!! One feature I think is awsome on this cart is the ICON feature. All the Disney carts have it, but on the TS cart a lot of the icons are retro versions of the characters! So I decided to cut the Jessie icon. Here's how my card turned out:

Welcome to Guest Designer Tuesday

at Cooking With Cricut!

Our special Guest Designer this week is Court from Court's Craft Corner blog. She is showcasing the Cricut Sweet Treats cartridge today with five super sweet cards! Take it away, Court . . .

As you all probably know, Cooking With Cricut is one of the most amazing challenge blogs EVER! Over the last couple months I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in all the challenges I can, and I am looking forward to participating in many, many more! And when I got the e-mail asking me to be a guest designer I was beyond thrilled! But, now that is my day I am actually slightly nervous, I really hope you enjoy what I have created for you today! Over the last couple weeks, in between vacation and getting ready for school to start, I have been using the Sweet Treats cartridge more than usual! It really does have some great cuts! Today, I want to show you some cards I have made using this awesome cartridge and some techniques!

The first card I have for you today is a tall card. The pink base is cut at 9" by 8" and folded in half to make a 9" by 4" card. The white layer is cut at 8.5" by 3.5". The sundae and all its layers are cut at 7.5" and is popped up using pop dots. I also added two ribbons and a stamp.

This card is a little different than the cards I usually make. It is a white A2 sized card with a 5" by 3.75" blue layer. The green pattern layer is 3.25" by 4.25". For this card I used one of the many awesome cupcakes on this cartridge. It was cut out at 3.25" using only scraps. I also added a sentiment down toward the bottom. I really enjoyed making this card and reaching outside my comfort zone!

This card is I little more my style. This is also an A2 sized card. I used brown for the base and pink for the background layer. The big piece of cake is one of my favorite cuts and is cut at 4.75". I used pop dost again to give it dimension, used My Pink Stamper’s cheater method for my ribbon, and added my sentiment.

I think this card is very simple and mature. Originally this cake had another layer that said "happy birthday" right across the front of the cake, however it tore while cutting, so I just left it out. I think I like it even more now. I used one of my favorite techniques --layering ribbon. The pink ribbon is fat and the skinny brown ribbon is like 30 cents for 10 yards at all the craft stores. I also used some gold shinny paper from Target’s scrapbooking section for the flame of the candle. It’s like a dollar a sheet, but I only use it for flames, which are really tiny.

For the last card, I used a brown base and a turquoise patterned background layer. I cut this fantastic cupcake out at 3.75" in a cool pink pattern and it has brown icing. For the ribbon I used another technique from My Pink Stamper. Then I just popped up the cupcake with some dimensionals and added my stamp in the top left corner.

Monday Showcase: Pooh & Friends

Good morning and welcome to Cooking With Cricut's Cartridge Showcase. Each Monday a member of our Design Team will feature a Cricut cartridge of their choice and projects they've made with that cartridge. We hope you'll be inspired to pull out your cartridges and find new ways to use them!

Hi! This is Chef Jen and I'd like to share with you some projects I've made using the Pooh & Friends Cricut cartridge. Did you know that August 21st is Winnie the Pooh's birthday? Yep, my favorite bear turned 90 years old yesterday! You will often see Pooh's birth date listed as October 14, 1926 --- the date of the first printing of the book "Winnie-the-Pooh". It is a fact (as presented in the book "House at Pooh Corner") that Winnie-the-Pooh is one year younger than Christopher Robin. Pooh was given to Christopher Robin Milne on August 21, 1921 on the occasion of his first birthday. Therefore, Pooh's real birthday is August 21.

Pooh and his pals have been favorites of mine since I was very young. I've even managed to pass that love on to my daughters. My youngest's nursery was decorated in classic Pooh and we used Pooh decorations for my older daughter's baby shower!

My first project is a birthday card. My card base is an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of white card stock folded in half. The red mat measures 8" x 5". The patterned birthday paper is cut at 7 1/2" x 4 1/2" and is by American Traditional Designs, Celebrate Collection - Celebrate Words. All other papers came from my scrap stash.

Here's the recipe:

Pooh & Friends cartridge -- Pooh cut at 4 3/4" tall; Piglet cut at 4 1/4" tall; birthday hat cut at 1 3/4" tall.
Create-A-Critter cartridge -- Happy Birthday cut at 4 1/2" wide; cupcake cut at 1 1/2" tall.

I snipped Piglet's arms away from his body to enable him to "hold" the cupcake. The Disney cartridges are notorious for their small pieces and intricate cuts. Here are a few tips to make your experience less frustrating -- make sure your mat is sticky, your blade is sharp and don't use textured papers. I cut Pooh's body (golden color) no less than four times before I achieved one that wasn't ripped -- Piglet's face only took three tries. (I believe my last new blade is a dud! Time for a trip to Michael's.)
