Day #10 Everyday in May Blog-Aversary Celebration

Good morning fellow crafters. This is Madison of Funky Cards. I am so pleased and honored to be a part of Cooking with Cricut's Blogoversary Celebration!

I was asked to design and create a special graduation card for my grammy to give to my cousin as he graduates from the University of the Pacific! Congratulations Kyle on a job well done!! You ROCK and we are all very proud of you. Kyle was a member of the swim team while he pursued his degree in Engineering at UOP.

I think it is always nice to personalize a card. I added Kyle's name and the year he graduated, as well as his university logo.

FREEBIE #10
In keeping with Madison’s post, I wanted to make a card for my nephew who is graduating at the end of this month.
I wanted to include the Aaronic blessing. but I wanted to truly convey the meaning of the blessing. We often read or say the words of this blessing without really knowing what they mean. The words "bless" and "keep" are abstract words which we are familiar with in English. But, the ancient Hebrews (what the original text was written in) were concrete thinkers who related all things to concrete ideas.
The Hebrew word for "bless" is "barak" which literally means "to kneel". A berakah is a "blessing" but more literally, the bringing of a gift to another on a bended "knee". When we bless God or others, we are in essence, bringing a gift on bended "knee". A true king is one who serves his people, one who will humble himself and come to his people on a bended knee.
The Hebrew word for "keep" is "shamar" which literally means "to guard". A related word is "shamiyr" which means "thorn". When the shepherd was out in the wilderness with his flock, he would construct a corral of thorn bushes to protect the sheep from predators, a guarding over of the sheep.
With this more Hebraic concept of Hebrew words we can now read the beginning of the Aaronic blessing as, "Yahweh will kneel before you presenting gifts and will guard you with a hedge of protection". The remaining portions of the Aaronic blessing can also be examined for its original Hebraic meaning revealing the following:

Yahweh will kneel before you presenting gifts and will guard you with a hedge of protection, Yahweh will illuminate the wholeness of his being toward you bringing order and he will beautify you, Yahweh will lift up his wholeness of being and look upon you and he will set in place all you need to be whole and complete.
So here is the card I made. I am so proud of him (my nephew) !!! I truly want to bless him with these words and the abundance of their meaning. The “thorny border around the text was also my interpretation of “keep” or “shamar”. It was purposefully constructed that way.

Every Day in May Blog-Aversary ~ Day 9

Welcome to Day 9 of Cooking With Cricut's Every Day in May Blog-Aversary!

This is Jen of Musings of a Crafty Mom and I am so honored to post here today.  Cooking With Cricut is having a month long Blogoversary Cele"bear"ation with postings and giveaways every day during the month of May - and each and every day  there will be some kind of celebration posted!

Today I am celebrating adoption!  I am the adoptive mother of four amazing children -- three are grown and on their own and my baby just turned seven.  Each and every year we celebrate the day their adoptions were finalized.  We call it their Adoption Anniversary -- I have a friend who is also an adoptive mother who calls it their "Gotcha Day."  It's a big deal -- there is almost always a gift involved and a special dinner -- kind of like a second birthday.

Today is my youngest's anniversary and this is the gift I made for her.  It is called a "Star Book" and it is basically a 3D card.  It was pretty easy to make and features pictures of my little one from the time she joined our family at three months to present as well as a poem called "How Do We Love You."

The cartridges used are:  George & Basic Shapes, Accent Essentials, Just Because Cards, and Mother's Day 2010.  Please check out my blog for details and a link to the Star Book instructions.

Adoption is an amazing way to build a family.  On any given day in my home state of Florida, there are approximately 850 children waiting for forever families.  They are waiting for someone to love them, waiting for a place to call home.  They come from varied backgrounds, circumstances, races and ethnicities. While some have specific medical, physical or emotional issues requiring special care, many do not. Some are part of sibling groups that want very much to stay together as part of a new family.  Adoption isn't for everybody, but if you think it might be for you and your family, I encourage you to take a closer look.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!  Make sure you check back tomorrow and see the wonderful Graduation card Madison created!

Thanks so much!

crackle vase close up
Here is a close up shot. I wanted to show that I colored the vase in with my Copic Markers and then used the Crackle Accents to make the vase look like it was a cracked glass vase. The picture doesn’t really do it justice. There is a lot of texture.

The freebie is the Rose in Vase Digital Stamp. It comes with the “stems”
and without. It is in Jpg and Png format.

It would be perfect to play along with for the Digital Challenge over at PCW: HERE

Good morning crafty friends!
I hope you’re getting ready for another fun weekend of paper crafting! I am sure many of you have some fabulous plans for National Scrapbook Day! Be sure to include a stop here to CWC as we will be having another wonderful Everyday in May project and FREEBIE!

But for today, Jean, of www.jeanscraftycorner.blogspot.com, one of our wonderful Creative Designers has a simply sweet project for you!
026
I wanted to show how you can take dollar store items and decorate them for your party theme for less.  I started out with a yellow bag and pack of yellow plates and cups from the dollar store.
015
I then used the Birthday Cakes Cricut Cake cartridge to cut the Let's Party and the George and Basic Shapes cartridge for the flowers.  I used pink vinyl to cut all of the decorations for the cups, plates and bag.  I then used pink cardstock and cut the flowers to decorate the straws.  For the straws, you will need to enlarge the circle in the middle for the straws to fit through.

019

Be sure to head over to Jean’s Blog for complete details including cut sizes, etc!

Now for today’s Everyday in May Freebie #6

In keeping with Jean’s wonderful project theme of Birthday Celebrating, I created this super easy scrapbook page.

ALSO the Birthday wish journaling block and the my little cupcake graphic are from this same stack! Just cut and paste!
