May Arts-DCWV Butterfly Mini Album

Happy Friday crafty friends,
I am super excited to share today’s project with you. I have been working on it off and on for the last few weeks. I had the opportunity to work with some beautiful May Arts Ribbons for their design team call. I was thrilled to make it to the second round. Anyone who has ever tried out for a design team knows how nerve racking it can be to put yourself out there like that. But nothing ventured...nothing gained. So after mulling several ideas around in my head and on my sketch pad, here is what I came up with.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
This is a view of the cover. It is a Butterfly shaped Mini Album. The cuts for the album actually came from a butterfly shaped card from PaperCraftingWorld.com. All of the pretty ribbon roses I made from some of their beautiful satin ribbon. If you want to learn how to make these roses, I have a video I made a while back showing how I did it with ribbon and one with paper. You can find them (Ribbon Version)HERE and (Paper Version) HERE.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a closer look at the pretty focal flower. Not sure what to call it, so I will call it a daisy. I created this flower using the same technique for the tutorial flower below. I simply used some of their thinner satin ribbon. I layered it with three layers of "petals" and then added a pretty button for the center.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a closer look at the pretty dress form die cut. I covered it with some of the light pink pleated satin ribbon (underneath) and then layered strips of the really pretty sheer pink ribbon. The bodice and the waist are decorated with their pearl and lace ribbon. I also used that same pearl and lace ribbon to outline the cover. I also used a layer of the light pink pleated satin ribbon to give it an extra soft look.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a closer look at the pleated satin ribbon bow. I glued it to the ring I used to “bind” the pages together.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a closer look at the other ribbon roses. All made from their pretty satin ribbon. I just added some pretty pearl beads to the centers. I used some really old metal shapes as flourishes. they were actually Christmas ornament holders that I thought were really pretty and just bent them to suit my needs.

Page 1.
 GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a look at page 1 All of the papers used here came from the DCWV Primrose, Dear Jane and Vintage Collector Stacks. This also includes the pretty labels used through out. Many of the stacks now include a sheet or two of journaling spots and tags that perfectly coordinate with the stack.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a closer look at the pretty cluster of butterflies. They were punched from a variety of hand punches. I inked them and added some gems to some.

A simple bow from the crushed ribbon. Gorgeous ribbon! Used a Paper Studio brad for the center.

Here’s a closer look at some of the little ribbon roses made from some more of the crushed ribbon. I love the pretty stick pin too. It was from my stash and had some pretty little beads on it.

Here’s a look at page two. Again the papers were from the DCWV Vintage collectore and Dear Jane stacks.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Closer look at the cute little ribbon roses I made with some 2” pink satin ribbon. I used floral tape and some wire to create the stems. I bound them together with some more of that gorgeous crushed ribbon. I used an iridescent gem for the center of this double ribbon.

PAGE 3
GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a look at page three. I used the flourish frame cut file and some more of that beautiful DCWV Dear Jane stack papers and printed embellies.

bfly-pg3-frame490
You can see I added some little pearls around the frame. Very delicate and understate.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a closer look at the ribbon “rosette’’. I simply used a needle and thread and did an in and out or slip stitch to gather the ribbon on one end. I glued a pretty button to the center and done!

PAGE 4
 GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a look at page four. You can see that I wrapped the photo mat with some of the white pleated satin ribbon and gathered it in the middle with a little ribbon rose. The papers on this page were from the DCWV Primrose stack.

bfly=pg4-rpsettes490
Here are some more pretty little ribbon roses. I used some of that fabulous Sage pleated satin ribbon to make my leaves. Have them “pre-pleated” makes this as easy as just a snip of our scissors! I used one of the Circle medallion die cuts and then added some pearls around the outer drops.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a decorative die cut embellished with a Paper Studio gem.

Here’s a look at page 5. I wrapped this mat with some of the velvet ricrac and some more of the crushed ribbon as a bow.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
I once again used the dress form die cut and then added some of the pink sheer ribbon. I cut it into strips and then layered it around the waist. I glued some more of that wonderful pearl and lace ribbon to the waist. The background papers are again from the DCWV Dear Jane and Primrose stacks.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a closer look to show the simple scalloped circles with a nice gem brad.

Here’s a look at page six. For this page, I added some more of the pink pleated ribbon around my mat. The papers on this page are from the DCWV Vintage Collector’s stack.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a look at page seven. I used some more of the pretty DCWV Primrose papers on this page.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a look at the pretty natural wired burlap ribbon I used as a page border. Works perfectly with this paper.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
I did distress the edges of this mat and ink them to give them a little more vintage look.

PAGE 8
GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Again, I used some of the gorgeous DCWV papers and utilized some of the pretty images on the paper to strategically cut it out for a pretty mat. I created the pretty ric rac flower on the bottom left using some more of the pretty crushed ric rac ribbon.

bfly-pg8-butterflies-490
Closer look at the hand punched butterflies. The weight of the DCWV paper is perfect. It is thin enough to work effectively in the punches yet stiff enough to allow me to bend them to give them some movement.

Here's a closer look at my crushed velvet ric rac flower.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here are three little flower buds using the same ric rac. I finished them off with a leafy punch.

Flower Tutorial
bft-pg7-cuflower-490

Trim out of your ribbon 10 petals. To make the petals easy, I folded my ribbon in half, so both sides would be symmetrical. Please note: The picture shows only 8. That’s because I started scorching the edges to a couple before I realized I hadn’t taken a pick of the plain petals.

Next, take a lighter and gently scorch the edges of your petals. This causes the edges to curl up and also cauterizes them so they don’t fray.

Next, I used a circle punch and punched out a circle out of some scrap cardstock. I then glued five petals as the base layer.

I did the same thing again with a second layer. I simply “staggered” the second layer so that the petals would be offset.

Finally, I took a piece of ricrac and folded it around my gem. I glued that to the center and done! That’s it. really easy peasy. The crushed ribbon has all those wonderful creases and that added the perfect amount of “distressing” to make the petals look more natural.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
Here’s a closer look at the finished ribbon on my page. I layered it onto a piece of pre-wired ribbon to create the pleated “rosette” at the bottom. I once again used some of that gorgeous sage satin pleated ribbon to make my leaves.

I will be sharing how I made a couple of the other flowers soon. I didn’t want to overload you with any more info because this post was already super long Smile.  I want to thank May Arts and the Ribbon Lady Ms. Bethney for the opportunity to work with this beautiful ribbon. It was such a pleasure and I really enjoyed it.

As always my crafty friends, I want to thank you for stopping by and sharing your crafty time with me. I appreciate it so much!  Until the next time,

Jubilee 3 of 3 Layout

Hello crafty friends,
Hope your Thursday is a good one so far. Here is my third project of three that I made with the Jubilee Paper Pack and Jubilee Chipboard Complements.

For this layout, I used the remaining pieces of paper left from the paper pack. I did also include some regular white cardstock and some kraft cardstock. I also included a piece of buttercup from the basic cardstock set for the honeycomb overlay. Sadly, the Jubilee paper pack as well as the matching chipboard complements will be retiring at the end of the month. So don’t miss your chance to snag it while it is still available.

jubileepprcomp-480

Please note: The Jubilee Paper Pack comes with the 6 designer papers pictured above as well as six sheets of coordinating cardstock. That is twelve pieces of 12x12 paper for less than $10! Jubilee Paper Pack  Jubilee Complements

Here’s a closer look at the nice chipboard element. I used one of the “zip strips” and wrapped it around my photo mat. I then used a glue dot to adhere the element to the zip strip so that a photo will slide easily underneath and yet allow the chipboard element to be secure.

happy moments chipboard-450

Here’s a look at one of the other chipboard elements. I used some foam tape to give it just the slightest lift off the page for a little extra dimension. Note: the red and white gingham strip at the top is also a chipboard element. It isn't a piece of ribbon although it certainly looks like it.

For the lined journaling note card, I simply used the lined note stamp included in the Cricut Artbooking bundle. I stamped it with my Saddle Ink Pad and then trimmed it down so that it looked like simple lines. The chipboard element came as a tag element. I chose to trim it down so that it looked like a sentiment only.

Here’s a closer look at the Family title. The red strip underneath was again a piece of left over paper. I used some white cardstock and my Artbooking cartridge to cut out the letters. I cut them out at 1.75”. The cute Chicken element is also one of the chipboard elements in the set.

stamp medallions-450

For these medallions, I used the Beautiful Friendship stamp set and the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge to cut out the shapes. I then stamped it using my Twilight ink pad. For the centers I used a couple of the stamps from the buttons, bits & bobs set. I used my Artiste cartridge to cut out the circles and then placed the smaller stamp into the larger one. I inked them both up with my Cranberry Ink pad and stamped them. I finished them up with a bit of the Cranberry Twine from the Harvest Assortment Twine

Note: The Twilight Ink Pad, Harvest Assortment Twine are both retiring products.

Daisy Card With My Pazzles, DCWV Paper & Fun Flock

Happy Hump day crafty friends,
Hope your week is going well. Today I am switching gears and sharing a card I created with my beloved Pazzles Inspiration for my Pazzles Design Team. Here’s what I came up with.

daisy birthday card by melin-490
Love this super fun card. I chose the DCWV Solstice paper stack for all the patterned papers along with white, cream and green Bazzil cardstock.

card in pazzle software-480
I started by using my software to create my card's layout. One of the fantastic features of using the Pazzles Inspiration! Creating your project on your “virtual mat” in the software first allows you to get all your pieces sized correctly.  I then used my software to cut out the Daisies, the borders and the square doily all from the craft room library. I did edit the ribbon border to remove some of the extra dash lines and then thread some ribbon through the ribbon border.

flocked daisy cu1-490
I added some yellow fun flock to the centers of the flowers to give them some dimension. I used some liquid glass as my adhesive for the fun flock. I applied a small amount and used my finger to spread the liquid evenly across the center of the flower. I sprinkled the fun flock onto the liquid and tapped it gently so it would set into the liquid and be even. I gently brushed off the excess and that was it!  I also inked the edges of the flowers with my Crème Brulee ink pad.

daisy closeup2-490
Here’s a shot of how I layered them onto the card. I used some foam tape under the square doily to give it just a slight bit of dimension.

birthday cu-490
I added some bitty sparkles to the outer edges of the doily. The birthday sentiment is from Close To My Heart. I stamped it with my matching Cranberry ink pad.
