CWC #86: Card Outreach

Welcome to Cooking With Cricut's weekly Wednesday challenge day!  Today we are teaming up with the "I Feel the Love" Project started by our very own Design Team member, Madison.  Every month Madison features an individual or group of people on her blog that are going through a difficult time and need a bit of cheer in their lives.  Madison loves to give and she knew that her fellow crafters did too.  So she opened it up to everyone and since she started this amazing outreach project in June 2011 over 500 cards have been created and given out.

This month's recipient is four-year old Brandon.  Here is what Madison told us about Brandon:  Brandon and his family were on their way to McDonald's one day when a horrific car accident forever changed the lives of this young family. Brandon's mother, aunt and sister were all seriously injured and rushed to area hospitals; his mother's boyfriend (the driver of the car) died of his injuries. Brandon was pulse less at the scene of the accident, was revived and taken to a trauma center.

There, doctors discovered that despite being in a car seat, Brandon had suffered a traumatic brain injury, traumatic spinal cord injury and had been without oxygen to his brain for too long for a reasonable chance at recovery. Despite dire predictions early on, Brandon has had remarkable accomplishments in rehab. He is considered tetraplegic, which means he can move one limb from time to time; he remains trach and ventilator dependent, with little likelihood that he will ever be weaned from the ventilator, due to his neurological damage from the accident.

Brandon's mom is just 34 years young and also cares for Brandon's 2 year old sister, Ashley. She's trying to regroup after losing her boyfriend (Ashley's father), and while still caring for herself and the injuries she suffered, as well as caring for the aunt who is still in the hospital following the September 1 accident.

Brandon likes watching other kids playing video games, enjoys superheroes like Spiderman and Batman, sports and Legos. He and his whole family would appreciate cards, prayers and thoughtfulness for this young man as he begins his journey home, through placement in a long term care facility for a stay long enough that Mom can be trained and find a new suitable home where Brandon's complex care can be managed.

Here is what our Design Team came up with for Brandon.  (Please click on the Designer's name to visit their blog and leave 'em some love!)

Cartridge Showcase: Yee-Haw

Good morning crafty friends,

Today is my turn to do a cartridge showcase. I had originally intended to do Damask Décor and share some projects I made for my brother’s wedding. But I am still trying to pull together pictures for all that. So I had to go with a plan “B”. I wanted to do a couple of boy layouts as those seem to be less ideas out there for them.

So here are my projects.

YEE HAW Two Page Layout
All the die cuts are from the Yee Haw Cartridge. I just used pieces from the different elements available on the cartridge to “piece” the bear together.

Marilyn's Birthday Card

Good morning crafty friends,
I just wanted to share a quick post of a card I made for a friend of mine. She is turning 80 and going back to Michigan. SOOOO another dear friend decided we should get together and celebrate before she goes back home.
marilyncard-500marilyncard-cup-500
Here is a close up. I was trying to show the flowers. They started out as plain white. I inked them with some Butterscotch Chalk Ink so the “tips” had some color. Then I hit them with a little bit of Stickles. The leaves were punched from the same PRIMA paper that the background matte is. It was double sided and had a green leafy print on the back. So I inked them with some Chestnut Roan.

The finished card size is 5.5 x 5.5. I used the following to create it.

Bazzill cardstock in White, Lt. Sky and Pollen (Yellow)
The flourish in the background is from the Flourished Baroque Elements Cut File Set
The Flowers are also new soon coming files from PCW.
The Butterflies, leaves and photo corners are from punches.
The patterned paper is from PRIMA

Lastly, the Sentiment is from Psalm 91: 14-16. If you would like the free jpg version of this, you can click the add to cart button and get it for free :)

Cartridge Showcase: Cricut Alphabet

Hey Everyone,

Welcome to Cooking with Cricut and yet another wonderful Cartridge Showcase! I am so glad you came here to check out what Xochitl from CricutCritter Blog has whipped up with the Cricut Alphabet! She has really outdone herself once again!

So with out further ado..... Here is Xochitl:

Hello CWC Friends!Xochitl here from CricutCritter Blog. Thank you for stopping by for another dose of inspiration. This week I am featuring the Cricut Alphabet Cartridge

This cartridge is full of cute and swirly designs along with a very nice and elegant alphabet. This font has become one of my favorites. This cartridge is exclusive to the New Cricut Expression 2.

For my first project I did a cute gift holder and a matching card. This cute little gift holder can also serve as a center piece for baby shower.

For the center piece I used the Its a boy title along with the cute little baby carriage. They have titles for both boy and girl. I decided to go for boy since that is what I needed for upcoming baby shower.

For the card I used New arrival for the onsie, but I used Cricut alphabet for the title. This cartridge has an array of very cute swirly title like the baby word.

I belong to Lambda Theta Nu Sorority and I am often looking for cute greek alphabets to use in my gifts for my sisters. Since this cartridge has such a lovely font I decided to play with it in CCR to get greek letters out of the ordinary Alphabet. For the Lambda I used an upside down V. For the Theta I used an O and welded a cute little scwily and for Nu I used used a regular N. I accented with a very cute little rose also available on this cartridge. Just because what you want is on there does not mean you can't make it.

For this card I used Melin I love you a latte svg along with the cute little cup and steam from Cricut Alphabet. I also go to use my washi tape as a little accent on the card.

For my last card I wanted to try one of the nice doilies this cartridges has. I used the doily and welded it together for the base of the card, then cut the doily in 2 different sizes for the background. The phrase is already a design in the cartridge.

Thank you for stopping by and hope you enjoyed browsing through my projects. Now get those E2's out and start creating!

Wow! You really cooked up so wonderful projects! You are a very inspirational and talented part of this team! If you thought here projects today were as awesome as I thought they were go check out what else she has cooked up at her blog and don't forget to leave her some love!

e sure to come back tomorrow as Chef Madison announces the winners from our last challenge.
