Challenge #42: Pen or Marker Work or a Sun

Good morning, Cricutlicious friends!

We are glad you are joining us for another wonderful Wednesday.  And if its Wednesday that means it is challenge day here at Cooking With Cricut!

Our challenge this week was to use our pens -- Cricut Color markers, Amy Chomas or Cri-Kits pens. If you don't have any of these to work with then the second aspect to this challenge was to include a sun die cut of some sort in or on your project instead.

Check out what our amazing Design Team created!

Stacey created this super cute card using the Simply Charmed cartridge.  Check out all the details on Stacey's blog.

Jean created this adorable layout using her Cricut Color markers and her Hannah Montana and the Robotz cartridges to create her cut images.  Check out all the details on Jean's blog!

Madison created this cute little treat bag for a friend using the Create-A-Critter cartridge.  Hop on over to her blog to check out the particulars.

Jen created this mat and picture using Hello Kitty Greetings and Create-A-Critter.  Check out her blog for the sweet story and details on this picture.

Roberta used Sesame Street Seasons and Mini-Mongrams for this super cute card.  Make sure you visit her blog for the details!

Gaby used her Cricut pens to create this awesome layout.  Make sure you go over to her blog and see how she did it!

Now it’s your turn, let’s see your creative, Cricut best!  Remember our guidelines . . .
1. It must be a new project with a Cricut cut.
2. You must post your project and include a link back to CookingWithCricut.com
3. And the best rule of all -- you MUST HAVE FUN!

As always, thank you so much for joining us! We appreciate it so much!

Cri-Kits.com Winner & Cutting Cafe' Giveaway

Hello everyone,
I apologize for the delay in posting the winner of the Cri-Kits.com pen set and pen holder. I had some "technical" difficulties. But before I announce that...Here is another giveaway for this week!
THE CUTTING CAFE' is sponsoring a GIVEaway!

The Design Team Members are each allowed to showcase a project and giveaway a set or two of files from the Cutting Cafe's amazing library of printable stamps and cutting files...WHOO HOO!

SO I get to giveaway TWO, ...that's RIGHT TWO (2)sets...So there will be 2 Lucky Winners Drawn This Week!

To enter for a chance to win here:
  1. You must be a follower of my blog...and then like last time, just...
  2. Leave a comment on any posts I make this week!
That's it! Super easy! EVERYONE can join in on the FUN! Giveaway entries will be good until Saturday at 5pm EST.
So Here is my first of a couple of projects this week using the Cutting Cafe's great files!

This is a view of the entire layout. I used their Tulip border and daisy border cutting files. I also used their "If Friends Were Flowers Sentiment" From their Beautiful Blooms Set.
Here is an angled view. I wanted to show that I raised the frame with double foam tape. This added extra dimension to the project. I also cut the tulip border in the same colored paper as the background. It is very subtle but in person it is so pretty. This technique is called "Faux Embossing".
I added this cute butterfly. It is the butterfly from the Indie Art Cricut Cartridge. I "drew" it with my Cri-Kits.com pens and then cut it with my Cricut. I wanted to show you that this can be done with your Cricut and cartridges as well. I did use the Gypsy to get my cut line very close to the draw line. I am attaching the Gypsy file below for those that have the Gypsy and the Indie Art Cartridge.
Please be sure to hop over to the Cutting Cafe' site and check out all the other participants and enter their giveaways too! How fun...Lot's of chances to win :-)

Okay speaking of winning....

"Waht a sweet little card!!! I sooo want these pens. The butterflies are so wonderful. I will have to try to figure out a "mod" in the meantime to use the mini markers that I have, with my current blade holder. Wish me luck!! Hugs, Rockin Robin C".

Cri-Kits #6 Flower Medallion Card, FREE DNC File

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Here is Project #6! A Pretty Flower Medallion that you can Draw and Cut On Your Cricut or Pazzles Inspiration with these wonderful pens. You can use the designs I created on the other cutters that are compatible with the use of pens and or a pen tool :-)

Here is a view of the entire card.
Here is a close up shot. I used the Green Metallic Pen to outline and draw all the foliage. I used the Red Metallic pen for the flower petal outlines and on the inside I used their Swirl pen to "fill in" the centers. I just had to do a little bit of coloring with my Copics and Presto...Quick, Cute Card!
Here is another angle. I wanted you to see how cool using the swirl pen was with this design. It gave them a natural shade and color combination. It really looks cool up close and in person :-)

Well that is our Cri-Kits.com project for today!

Here is a close up angled view. This shows all the lines that the pens drew on the wings and inside the heart. I used the purple glitter pen for the lines in the wings. I used the pink for the pink heart and the green for the teal heart and to outline the purple lines. I used the gold for the crown. I did color the teal heart, the pink outline heart and the crown in with my Copics. I also colored in the outline of the wings too.
Here is the opposite angle. I wanted to show how nicely the pens did their job of coloring in the wings :-)

Cri-Kits #3 Project
Nursery Wall Hanging
Here is the project I completed for today's Cri-Kits.com promotion. I made this super cute nursery wall hanging. I created the draw n' cut file of the little lamb and flower. I also created the Butterflies from a file I had created a while back. I colored them in with my Copic markers.
Here is a closeup view of the butterflies. I even did the flying pattern stitching with the pens!
I had intended to use the black line around the flower and lamb as my cut line. But when I decided to add the stitching, I just kept it black and cut the picture out as a mat.
Remember to take a moment and comment on this and any other post from this week (through Sunday) to enter our drawing for a FREE set of pens and the custom holder from Cri-Kits.com.

Cri-Kits Pens Giveaway & FREE DNC Files

Hello Everyone,
I am so excited and thrilled to share our giveaway sponsor this week!

Visit them today: CRI-KITS.COM
They are giving away a pen set and pen holder to one lucky blog follower this week!

These pens work in your Cricut and also in your Pazzles Inspiration Machines! I have to tell you, I am so in love with this whole print and cut concept. It's like being able to create digi stamps with your cutting files and then cutting them out!
There are several different sets to choose from with SWIRL ones available too.

Let me just say, Like most of you, I have had my share of gel, glitter pens over the years. I was pretty skeptical about these. I thought they wouldn't draw smoothly, would skip or would just be plain dried up and out!

But after playing with these, I have been very pleasantly surprised! They draw so smooth and with the little magnets on the ends, they pop right into place in their custom holder.

Okay to enter for your chance to win....you need to do the following:
  1. You must be a follower of this blog....thanks so much!
  2. You need to leave a comment on any post from today through Sunday, Augus8th, 2010.
That's it! I will be posting everyday this week, so that will give you up to 7 chances to enter to win! One random winner will be selected from among the posts!

PLUS
Cri-Kits.com has agreed to give you an additional 5% off their already slashed prices this week only! Use the special coupon code:

GETCOOKING for any CRI-KIT.com purchases you make through August 7

AND

As a special bonus, if you order from them and use the coupon code: GETCOOKING, I will personally send you 5 special "draw and cut" designs I have made especially for this!
I will post pictures of the 5 special designs in a couple of days!

OKAY Now for my first project!

Okay, I made two things. I made a card and a tag.
Here is a closeup of the card. I designed the rose and then added the wording and the oval and oval scalloped shape. I used the Glitter gel pens to "draw the rose and the sentiment. I then cut it out with my cutter and then cut a matching scallop oval to layer behind the draw and cut. Worked like a charm!
Here is a close up angled view to show how the glitter shimmers through even after coloring the rose in with my Copics.
Here's a closer view of the tag.
Here is a closeup of the Star "Medallion" I made. I drew it with my pink glitter gel pen and then cut it out with my cutter. I colored it in with my Copics and then hit the whole thing with my Chestnut Roan Chalk Ink. I was inspired for the design by the pretty Basic Grey Patterned Paper I used.
Here is a closeup of the rose that I "drew and then cut". I used the glitter gel pens as you can see by the angle of this photo. You could set your "cut" lines even closer to the object so that no white shows. It was very accurate.
Here is a different angle of the same rose. You just don't see the shimmer from this angle.
So be sure to leave a comment on each post this week and become a follower to win!

Please keep checking back each day for a new project and a free "Draw and Cut" DNC file
