Challenge #51: Heritage/Grandparents

Happy Wednesday and welcome to Cooking With Cricut's weekly challenge!  In honor of Grandparent's Day (September 11), the Design Team was challenged to create a project about or for their grandparents or a heritage project.  Almost everyone has a fond memory of a grandparent or older adult who played that role in their lives.  Some are even lucky enough to have memories of or still have their great-grandparents in their lives.  They are our connection to our roots.  And if we ask the right questions, they will provide us with immeasurable wealth -- stories of their past -- of our past!

Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children. ~Alex Haley

Stacey created a beautiful Grandparent's Day card using Plantin SchoolBook
and Lovely Floral cartridges.  Make sure you check out her blog for the details.

Jenny used the George & Basic Shapes cartridge for this super cute card.
Stop by her blog for the recipe!

Madison made these cute photo frames of her older brothers using
the Create-A-Critter cartridge.  Hop on over to her blog for the details!

Jen created a heritage layout of her great-grandparents using the Accent Essentials
and Plantin SchoolBook cartridges.  Check out all the details at her blog.

Melin used the Heritage Cartridge to create this layout.

Melin used her Cricut and the Vintage Bear cutting file from PCW to create this layout.
This file includes a PDF printable pattern for those who need to hand cut the pattern.
There is also a Vintage Bear Digital Stamp version for those who can not use the cutting file.

Now it’s your turn!!!
Let’s see your grandparent or heritage project.  Here are our few guidelines:

Every Day in May Blog-Aversary ~ Day 9

Welcome to Day 9 of Cooking With Cricut's Every Day in May Blog-Aversary!

This is Jen of Musings of a Crafty Mom and I am so honored to post here today.  Cooking With Cricut is having a month long Blogoversary Cele"bear"ation with postings and giveaways every day during the month of May - and each and every day  there will be some kind of celebration posted!

Today I am celebrating adoption!  I am the adoptive mother of four amazing children -- three are grown and on their own and my baby just turned seven.  Each and every year we celebrate the day their adoptions were finalized.  We call it their Adoption Anniversary -- I have a friend who is also an adoptive mother who calls it their "Gotcha Day."  It's a big deal -- there is almost always a gift involved and a special dinner -- kind of like a second birthday.

Today is my youngest's anniversary and this is the gift I made for her.  It is called a "Star Book" and it is basically a 3D card.  It was pretty easy to make and features pictures of my little one from the time she joined our family at three months to present as well as a poem called "How Do We Love You."

The cartridges used are:  George & Basic Shapes, Accent Essentials, Just Because Cards, and Mother's Day 2010.  Please check out my blog for details and a link to the Star Book instructions.

Adoption is an amazing way to build a family.  On any given day in my home state of Florida, there are approximately 850 children waiting for forever families.  They are waiting for someone to love them, waiting for a place to call home.  They come from varied backgrounds, circumstances, races and ethnicities. While some have specific medical, physical or emotional issues requiring special care, many do not. Some are part of sibling groups that want very much to stay together as part of a new family.  Adoption isn't for everybody, but if you think it might be for you and your family, I encourage you to take a closer look.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!  Make sure you check back tomorrow and see the wonderful Graduation card Madison created!

~ Jen

Thanks so much!

Love Layout With Gypsy

Good morning crafting friends,

I am posting this project as I was the Guest Designer at The Bug Bytes Blog.
Be sure to head over there and leave a comment on my post. I will select one random commenter to get a cutting file or digital stamp of their choice. You can click HERE to go directly to that post!
My project today was completed using the following cartridges:
Bloom
Love Struck 2010
Sweethearts
Accent Essentials
I also used my Gypsy.

Here is a picture of the complete layout.

I used my Gypsy to cut the heart just the right size.
I used my Gypsy and Bloom to cut out the Medallion.
I used my Gypsy and Sweethearts to weld and cut out the love with the flourish.
I used my Gypsy and Accent Essentials for the Scalloped Border Strip.
I used my Gypsy with the Bloom cartridge to create the rose petals. I welded one of the images on the bloom cartridge into a triangle shaped petal.

Here is the Keys used to find the “petal” in its singular form.
To create the rose, I simply staggered and layered the petals. I did use some Glimmer Mist to add some shimmer to them as well as make the paper more pliable. This is so that you can shape the petals.

Day 7 - 25 Days of Cricut(Crafting) Holiday Fun

Good morning everyone,
So sorry for the delay in getting this up today.
But….Welcome to Day 7!  Hope you have been enjoying the projects and getting some great tips and holiday inspiration!
Let’s get right to today’s project
deck the halls swirly tree Cricut v-500
Here is the layout with the Cricut Version Cuts. .  The Flower cut was from the Accent Essentials Cartridge. The flourish was something I created, but there are a lot of flourishes in the Cricut arsenal that you could use.
cricut flower
Here is the flower from the Cricut cuts. I cut three layers at 1, 1.25 and 1.50
cricut trees
I cut the trees from The Christmas Cartridge at 7.5” and 5.25”

deck the halls layout-500
Here is the “My Version” layout. These are certainly not “traditional” holiday colors, but I wanted to do something out of the ordinary. The Trees, swirls and “poinsettia” type flower were all files that I created. The Deck the Halls is a word art-digi stamp that I made.
swirl and flower closeup
Here is a close up of the flower and the swirl. The picture is over exposed, so you really can’t see all the glimmer from the glimmer mist on the swirl and the glitter on the flower. But they are very nice.
swirly tree closeup
Here is a close up of the tree. I embossed them with copper, but again, the picture doesn’t really show this too well.

Don’t forget, there is still time to enter our challenge! Just click the button on the top left column to check it out and enter! Be sure to join us tomorrow as the DT unveils the next challenge!

So for the FREE files today:
Please Note: Click each one you want and then check out ONCE. If you check out multiple times or after each item and then come back for the next, the system may “block” your IP address….sorry about that. Something I don’t have any control over.

Baking Bear Cricut Layout

Good morning all,
Hope you're having a wonderful morning so far! I am sharing a layout I created in honor of my new Cutting Cafe' DT appointment. I was so super excited to hear that I was chosen to be on this team! Whew, these gals are TALENTED :-)So let me describe my FIRST project using their "SCHTUFFFF"
  1. I used their From My Kitchen Digi Stamp Set for the Cupcake sayings, the cupcakes and the little Kiss the cook emblem on the bear's apron. Check it out HERE
  2. I used the CC's apron shaped card cutting file for my bear. Check it out HERE
  3. I used my "E" and Accent Essentials for the blue medallion behind the circular digi stamp.
  4. Paisley Cartridge for all the flowers. Which I cut all of them in white and colored with my Copics. I didn't have just the right shade of red or blue cardstock to go with this layout.
  5. I used my Gypsy and Picturesque cartridge for the swirls and photo corners.
  6. Lastly, the bear and her dress are my own cutting file designs :-)

I created this layout for the Pink Elephant Scrap Challenge #13. Our assignment was to create a layout with some element for extra photos or journaling. That is where her little apron comes in. It is an apron shaped card cutting file that I sized to fit on the bear. It still flips up like a card. That is where my hidden journaling block and extra photo spot are :-)
Closeup of the bear. Even the little sentiment on her apron is a cutting cafe digi stamp. I embossed her apron at the bottom and detailed it with faux stitching. I added a cute little button in the middle of the sentiment.
Here is a view of the apron opened to reveal the hidden journaling and the extra photo spot.
Here is a view of the Digi Cupcakes from the Cutting Cafe. I cut them out and colored them with my copics. I used various colored stickles to add the sparkly "Frosting"
I hope you all enjoyed it and were inspired to start incorporating some digi elements on your layouts! They are truly a fun addition to your pages!

Please be sure to come back tomorrow for a FREE cutting file and some more great "Paperlicious" Inspiration :-) Have a wonderfully blessed day!
