QQ Birthday Blog Hop

Good morning crafty friends,

Today’s post is the card that I’ve provided to my Quick Quotes design team for the Design Team Birthday Blog Hop 7/30-7/31.
I’m sure you’re all familiar with a standard blog hop - a long list of blogs, and you hop from one to the other leaving comments...
Well, this one has a twist. This should be a super efficient hop for you, the hopper...
We’re linking up design team blogs instead of the individual bloggers blogs... So you only have to make 8 hops, and you’ll get to see 57 cards!

Here is my card.

birthday blog hop card by melin-front-500
I used the wonderful Mary’s Garden Designer Paper from Quick Quotes. I created the digital stamp and it is available HERE.
inside of card-500
This is the inside of the card. I used my Cricut to cut the scallops and the circles. I inked the edges of the circles with the Bloody Mary  Powder Puff chalk ink.
close up of happy birthday
Here is a close up of the vellum quote I used. I wanted to show you that you can adhere the vellum quote to the patterned paper without showing the adhesive. I simply used a thin line adhesive and followed the lettering in the back.

Guest Designer Tuesday!

Welcome to Guest Designer Tuesday
at Cooking With Cricut!

Our special Guest Designer this week is none other than Rebecca -- a/k/a The Crafting Misfit.  Although, after you see these projects, I think you'll agree with me that she is no misfit!  Rebecca is showcasing the Cricut Celebrations cartridge today.  So take it away, Rebecca!!

I want to start my post by saying --  thank you so much to the team at Cooking With Cricut for asking me to do this. I was SO EXCITED when I was contacted by them! I have been watching the challenges on this blog for months and participate often because I love them! It is great to be a part of this and I feel very honored that I was asked to be a Guest Designer!  CWC's Design Team is incredible and I get so much inspiration from their work!

Celebrations was one of my first cartridges! My mother bought me my first Cricut for Christmas 2009 and gave me two cartridges -- Celebrations and Stretch Your Imagination.    My hubby bought me an Expression for Christmas 2010. I had wanted a Cricut for a couple of years before getting one so I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited! Then I couldn't live without having a Gypsy; so for Christmas 2010 mom got me that. (My mother is great at gift giving!)  My life hasn't been the same ;). Sometimes I get so bogged down in what is new that I forget my oldies but goodies. So when CWC contacted me about doing this I thought I would explore a forgotten cartridge on my Gypsy.

Crafting has quickly become my passion. I am a Kindergarten teacher and mother of two, so my machines get plenty of use! I joined the blogging world in January 2011 and have found that to be an addiction that I love to feed. I look forward to reading comments from my followers and find I need to check those as often as I check Facebook (which is A LOT). In the summer I spend most of my time enjoying my kids and husband. We try to go to the ocean at least once a week and we camp as often as we can. Camping is an acquired taste that I am still working on but this summer it is far better than last. As a kid I loved it, but now I love real beds and A/C. The only bad thing about camping is my Cricut doesn't come . . . yet.

For my project I created some gift bags with matching tags and a card.  If you like what you see I would love to have you visit my blog!

Thanks again, Rebecca,  for your continued support of Cooking With Cricut -- we love seeing what you cook up each week!

Please take the time to go over to Rebecca's blog and show her some crafting "love!" See you back here tomorrow for our weekly challenge.  You won't want to miss it!

Monday Showcase: Cindy Loo

Good morning and welcome to Cooking With Cricut's Cartridge Showcase.  Each Monday a member of our Design Team will feature a Cricut cartridge of their choice and projects they've made with that cartridge.  We hope you'll be inspired to pull out your cartridges and find new ways to use them!

Hi!  This is Chef Jen and today I'm going to share some projects created with Cindy Loo.  If you haven't explored this cartridge you're missing out!  Not only does it have some great shapes, but it also has a wonderful font, two cupcake wrappers, an envelope with matching card, and a gift card holder.

I created this card as part of one of my fellow Design Team member's incredible outreach project.  Madison started "I Feel the Love" Project in June.  It is a monthly challenge that gives her blog followers the chance to create a card to give someone who may be going through a difficult time.

Last month's recipient was a teacher at her High School who is battling cancer for the second time.  Madison collected 22 cards for Ms. Pentoney!  This month the recipient is a 3 year old girl named Marley, her 5 year old sister Mia and their parents Nikki and Brent.  Marley was diagnosed with a brain tumor near her optic nerve, brain stem and pituitary gland in August 2009.  She has persevered through surgeries, a stroke that left her right side paralyzed, and numerous rounds of chemo.  Madison has already collected 26 cards for Marley and her family this month!

This card is for Marley's parents, Brent and Nikki.   My card base was made using a 10" x 7" piece of card stock from the DCWV Mediterranean paper pack folded in half.  All of the die cuts are from the Cindy Loo cartridge.  Here is the recipe:

  • The mat is an reddish-orange piece of Bazzil card stock cut at 6" x 4".
  • I welded the word "Peace" in Design Studio.  It is 2 1/2" wide.
  • The flower is 4" tall and was created with papers from my scrap stash.
  • The ribbon is 7/8" wide and is a sheer green-gold.
I also created cards for Marley and Mia and they will be featured on my blog later in the week if you'd like to check them out.

Here are some other projects I've created using Cindy Loo.  Each one has a link underneath if you'd like to see the details and other project information.

Thank You card
