PCW Memorial Day Uncle Dan

Happy Memorial Day Friends!

We hope you’re enjoying your time with family and friends while reflecting on the meaning of our holiday. I just wanted to share a little bit personally before I share the new  PCW Craft – Die Cut challenge.

Today is a day in which we take a moment and pause to reflect on those men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for all the freedoms we enjoy.
I just want to take a moment to share with you about one such person.
uncle dan1uncle dan2
His name was Daniel Michael Arizmendez.
He was my mother’s older brother.
He was a natural athlete and held a track record at the local high school for many years.
He was a Marine in the Vietnam WAR.
He served his country and ultimately laid his life down.Regardless of the politics behind the Vietnam War, He was my Uncle. He died when I was around 2.5 years old. I don’t remember him, but I have seen the pictures.
He never got to come home and live a life like you and me…
He never got married
He never had children
Instead, he came back to my family in a coffin. He paid the ultimate price so that you and I could continue to have the freedoms that we enjoy. I grew up with an ACUTE understanding of Patriotism, sacrifice and the love of our freedoms and country.
I also grew up with an ACUTE understanding of how God is in control of EVERYTHING and the closer we are to Him, the more He will reveal His awesome love, peace, hope and comfort in the midst of even the greatest of losses and trials.
Thank you Uncle Dan and the countless others who like him, were sent out, served and sacrificed. May we as citizens of this great nation bring honor to your sacrifice and honor to the most high God.
Thank you for letting me share just a small piece of me with you. Please take a moment to remember all those that you may or may not know that are worthy of a pause and a prayer of thanksgiving to the almighty for they have truly made a difference.

So now on to the new die-cut – craft challenge for the PCW team.

Day #29- Every Day in May Blog-Aversary

Welcome to Day 29 of Cooking With Cricut's Every Day in May Blog-Aversary!

Hi! . . .  This is Madison again from Funky Cards!  Cooking With Cricut is having a month long Blogoversary Cele"bear"ation with postings and giveaways every day during the month of May - and each and every day there will be some kind of celebration posted.

My celebration card is a birthday card that I made for my friend Jorden.
I designed this gate card using my Cricut Expression and Gypsy.
I created the "Happy Birthday" sentiment paper using my computer and printer.

I repeated the phrase "Happy Birthday" in different fonts on the entire page and then ran the sheet of paper through my printer on card stock.  I cut it to size and added it to the card.

Thanks for stopping by.  Be sure to come back by tomorrow to see what Stacey has cooked up for you!

Paper Temptress Layout

Good morning Crafty friends,
Today's project is one I made for the Paper Temptress Design Team. I posted this on my PaperCraftingWorld.Blogspot.com blog, but I wanted to re-post it here in case you missed it.
The Paper Temptress’s Paper is hands down the most BEAUTIFUL paper I have come across! Most other papers you have to “ALTER” to get even close to the look of some of this gorgeous paper!

This is posted HERE on the PT Community Blog so be sure to head over
there too and see what the rest of the PTDT is up to!
birdcages and flowers-500
Here is my project. It is a layout featuring some of the yummiest paper you’ll ever find!
I used the following Paper Temptress Paper to create this layout.
Pink Ice – Pink Parchment Looking Photo Matte
I used the following additional Tools and supplies to complete

Cricut Expression

Ornamental Iron Cartridge
Sentimentals Cartridge
EK Success Daisy Punch
MS Butterfly Punch
EK Success Butterfly Punch
MS Flower Punch
MS Border Punch
Misc. White Silk Ribbon
Bazzill Brown Cardstock
Bazzill White Cardstock
Prima Patterned Paper
Warm Red, Blue Iris and Dark Brown Cat’s Eye Chalk Ink
White Signo Gel Pen

Here is what I did:

First: I used some of the Laser Silver Lustre Text paper to cut these birdcages out of my Cricut. You can see that the paper has a striped “Columned”, shiny appearance. Did I mention TEXT WEIGHT….yep it wasn’t thick paper, but look how beautifully it cut the details on the cages.
birdcages closeup 500

Here is a photo to show of one of the cages cut in the Laser Silver Lustre Text paper and just some regular white cardstock. This helps you see the difference in the paper…hopefully :-)
birdcage closeup3 500
Next: I used some of the Silk Silver Lustre paper to punch out my flowers. I tried to capture in this photo how pretty this paper is: all by itself.
flower paper closeup 500
I then used some Warm Red Cat’s Eye Chalk Ink, to ink the edges of the petals.
flower close up 1-500
After inking them all, I curled the petals. Just look at the shine and texture of the flowers.  They were so pretty, just like that. The Silk Silver Lustre Paper is absolutely beautiful!
flower close up 2-500

I then used some Cappuccino Mica/Metallic Text paper to punch out the border. This too has such a soft and subtle sparkle. I love that you don’t have to “spray it, or slather it in messy glitter to get that gorgeous shimmer. I laid it on some regular brown cardstock to try and show the difference between plain cardstock and this beautiful paper.
border paper closeup 500
I then used some Nero Incandescent Text paper to punch out my butterflies.
This photo shows a plain white cardstock butterfly on the top left, the Nero Incandescent Butterfly on the top right, the Nero Incandescent Butterfly with Pink ink on edges on the bottom left and then the last one is inked with pink and brown ink. I love how the shimmer of the paper still shows through the ink….just so pretty!
butterflies closeup 1-500
Here is a close up of the birdcages and some of the butterflies. The birds are cut out of regular plain white cardstock because I really wanted some shimmery contrast between them and the gorgeous cages and butterflies.
closeup 3-500
Next: I punched out the flower centers from some more Cappuccino Mica/Metallic Text paper. This photo shows that I inked the edges of the paper with some dark brown Cat’s Eye Chalk Ink. I love how the shimmer still shows through…just gorgeous.
inner flower closeup 1-500
Here is a shot of the Nero Incandescent paper that I used for the large photo matte. I wanted this picture to show the beauty of this paper against plain white paper. Gorgeous texture and shimmer.

Finally, here is a close up shot of the finished flowers and butterflies. I love how all of the die cuts held their shapes even though most were created with “text weight” paper.
